PRIDE SF 2014

PRIDE a celebration for the LGBT community illuminated the streets of San Francisco on June 27-29, 2014. A celebration that celebrates FREEDOM and RIGHTS has turned into to a reason for some people to just get naked and some people a reason to wear as little as possible. Yes, there were some very creative outfits put together and very well thought-out but there were some extremely tacky outfits that just said I DON'T CARE  like the random bras that girls wore straight out the pantie draw and a random swimsuit bottom that clearly did not match the tops. Tutus bedazzled bra tops and butterfly wings ruled the street from brightly color solid ones to the rainbow ones. While being completely naked was also very popular from the extremely large men to the extremely short and old men everyone was very free.   When I asked a few people on the streets what was the purpose of people walking around naked 90 % of the people shrugged there shoulder and said "I don't know...for fun" as they laughed and walked away. I did however get one person to say "It's a way of being free and breaking all the rules without getting in trouble." Pride is for everyone yes it is to celebrate the LGBT community but yes non-gays can attend it's a great way to show your support to the community. PRIDE is a big party with lots of loving happy people proud to hit the streets.

Despite the very odd things that were witness and the bad judgment of bringing kids out to the festivities, PRIDE was and is amazing it is beautiful to see all the people from all walks of life join together to be as free as possible to be loving and open minded. It's too bad that society has plagued us with all the things that are unacceptable and acceptable and that only on this weekend may we except people for who they are. So we hope you had the opportunity to enjoy weekend starting at the All White Affair on Friday June 27 at EDEN filled with multiple rooms of different sounds a FREE photo opp and great drinks. On Saturday June 28 the streets were packed with vendors patrons and on the main stage was a talent competition pulling contestants from all over the country judges included Tita Aida, Brian Kent and Caroline Lund. On Sunday June 29 BAAITS, Katdelic, Kid Allen, The She's, Roberta Kaplan, Debbie Holiday, Fou Fou Hal and many others took the stage. We also had the pleasure of watching a small cheer competition with Cheer SF and a Fashion Show by Traver Rains which was all led by an awesome parade that started at 9 am. San Francisco was the first place to have PRIDE and now this a a world wide celebration  with sponsors such as BudLight, Whole Food, Burger King, Safeway, Bank of America, LEVIS, Wild94.9, 106KMEL, NETFLIX and many others. This years PRIDE honorees include TRANS MARCH organizational Grand Marshall , CHELSEA MANNING honorary Grand Marshall and Dr. TED McILVENNA received the Gilbert Baker Award. PRIDE is a celebration of FREEDOM and RIGHTS, LOVE and OPPORTUNITY. It has a great purpose and we hope thoes that attend understand the celebration and they are not just using it as a means to get naked and to see naked people. Let's try to LOVE everyday and not just this one weekend. Congrats to the LGBT community for all that you have accomplished thus far.

The Black LOVE Experience ....

The Bizness Magazine is now back in the BAY AREA and what other way to reconnect with our home than to go to a play that was directed, written by and featured yet another STRONG Black Woman - Sonjay Odds. The BLACK LOVE EXPERIENCE was just that and more. As I entered 300 LAKESIDE THEATER OAKLAND, CA I was excited from the sounds I was hearing and the beautiful African Americans that I saw, from the young kids stepping to the beautiful full figured women that walked the run way I knew that this was the place that I needed to be. At first glance my eyes were stunned by the Sebastian Threadz by Lynn and was filled with joy by Ijeoma's poise and confidence as she owned the run way. That was the pre-show which prepared the audience for something truly spectacular.

The lights went down and out came a poet that spoke so clear and demanded the attention of the entire room. Following her nothing but beautiful black butterflies and my mother uttered in a soft whisper, "Yes, I am glad we came." I knew from that moment this would be a great play. Director Sonjay Odds used this play to teach history, love, forgiveness and patients all in one. The play was about LIGHT SKIN vs DARK SKIN the prejudice that we go through within our own race. The cast included Piet Beral, Victoria Hollies, Terry Odds, Sianne Enis, Nicole Van Hook, Kailef Pleasants Alex Johnson, Mahnaz Salvador and her beautiful voice, Kimba Mitchell, Kevin Johnson, Jayda Nunley, Brigitte Edington, Carolyne Melson and Jasmin Mohib. They even had an interpreter throughout the play Odie Ashford. I must say though my favorite part of the play was the Rhythm and Rhyme as she spilled poetry from her tongue and swayed to the words it was powerful and bold.
This play should be played in all schools during Black History month as a requirement for all students to see and  write about what they got of it. We, The Bizness Magazine give THE BLACK LOVE EXPERIENCE two thumbs up and we salute the cast for you guys are all The Bizness. I am personally looking forward to another Sonjay Odds production.
